The 280-bed hospital is an acute care and surgical facility that serves the Johnson City community. It is home to a level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), a high-risk obstetrics program and educational classes for new parents.

Johnson City is home to one of the country’s largest remaining carousels, donated by the George F. Johnson family. The area is also home to more than a dozen golf courses and offers outdoor activities like kayaking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, camping, cycling and hot air balloon rides.
Popular local events include the Annual Discovery Center Cup Captain and Crew Golf Tournament, Zoo Brew & Wine Too, Greater Binghamton Airshow, Annual Wizard of Oz Summer Carnival, Annual Ice Cream Social, An Evening of Wine & Roses at The Discovery Center, LUMA Lights Projection Festival and the Tree Lighting Celebration, to name a few.
The city is served by the Johnson City Central School District and several nearby private schools.
Institutions of higher education include the Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Davis College. Johnson City is also the future home of the Binghamton University Decker School of Nursing.
