The hospital is a 590-bed, full-service community facility. It has served the Baton Rouge community since 1900. Its birth center provides maternal-fetal medicine services for high-risk pregnancies, a level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and state-of-the-art birthing suites.

The Baton Rouge Zoo is a family favorite with 1800+ species. There are several public and private golf courses in Baton Rouge that allow for year-round play. 


LSU's home football games dominate the fall social calendar when fans perfect the art of tailgating and pack the immense Tiger Stadium. A revival is underway in the city center where attractions range from a riverfront casino to the USS Kidd floating museum to the ultra-contemporary Shaw Center for the Arts, which clusters an art museum, gallery spaces, theaters and restaurants in the heart of downtown.

The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra has been in service since 1947, and currently operates at the River Center Music Hall downtown. After a fun-filled day or a night on the town taking in the tastes of Baton Rouge is a must. From Cajun to Creole and everything in between, resident's taste buds can attest to why Baton Rouge has been voted as a Best Foodie City two years in a row! Baton Rouge is a shopper’s paradise—outlets, outdoor malls, the Mall of Louisiana, antique shops, local boutiques and so much more await.


East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools operates primary and secondary schools serving the city. The city of Baton Rouge is also home to 15 charter schools with a total enrollment of 3800 pupils. One of the latest includes the Mentorship Academy, which leverages its location downtown to establish internship opportunities with local businesses as well as provide a high tech classroom environment to focus on a digital animation curriculum. The East Baton Rouge Parish School System is the second largest public school system in the state and contains nine U.S. Blue Ribbon Schools and a nationally renowned Magnet Program. 

Postsecondary education is thriving in Baton Rouge. Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, generally known as Louisiana State University or LSU serves 32,000 students, with 1,300 full-time faculty members. Our Lady of the Lake College is an independent Catholic institution with programs in nursing, health sciences, humanities, behavioral sciences, and arts and sciences. Tulane University  also has a satellite medical school at Baton Rouge General. Southeastern Louisiana University School of Nursing offers traditional baccalaureate and master's degree programs as well as LPN and RN to BSN articulation.
