Owensboro, KY. Owensboro is ideally situated along the banks of the Ohio River and is the 4th largest city by population in the state. It is centrally located about 107 miles southwest of Louisville, KY and 32 miles east of Evansville, IN. The city's population is estimated at 60,000, with a metropolitan population of 116,030.

Owensboro’s cultural options include Broadway plays, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, concerts at RiverPark Center, the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, Owensboro Museum of Science and History, Western Kentucky Botanical Garden and the International Bluegrass Music Museum.

Owensboro is famous for its unique style of barbecue featuring mutton and burgoo. In addition to barbecue, Owensboro offers nearly 20 locally owned restaurants featuring many styles of cuisine from authentic Greek and Italian to Southern fusion and seasonal and farm to table options.

To burn off all of those great tasting calories, Owensboro's many parks boast activities like hiking, trail biking, disc golf, ice skating, fishing, gravity racing, go-karts, golf and much, much more.

Owensboro considers itself the BBQ Capital of the World. It holds its International Bar-B-Q Festival and competition every second weekend in May. Each summer, Owensboro is host to the Big O Music Fest, a large country music festival. Some of the artists who have played at the Big O Music Fest include Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen, and Gary Allan. The one day event, dubbed "The Party of the Year", draws an estimated 12,000 people from across the country.

Education

The Owensboro Public School system oversees six elementary schools, one middle school and Owensboro High School (OHS). OHS has been recognized multiple times by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best high schools in America, earning a "bronze" status. There are also several private schools from which to choose.  

Owensboro is home to two private, four-year colleges, Brescia University and Kentucky Wesleyan College, and one public community college, Owensboro Community and Technical College. Western Kentucky University has a regional campus in Owensboro.
