Within Anchorage boundaries lies Chugach State Park, the third-largest state park in the nation. Listed as one of America's Best Top 10 State Parks, the Chugach boasts 200 miles of year-round trails, more than 50 glaciers and great wildlife viewing. The half-million-acre park is rich in recreational opportunities, with some of Alaska's most accessible hiking, biking, camping, trail running, climbing, skiing and snowmobiling.

The Anchorage arts are as varied as the landscape. Internationally renowned performers join local talent onstage, while countless festivals, a variety of cultural affairs and talented artists thrive amid inspiring surroundings. Sporting competitions of world-championship caliber offer both sideline spectator and competitor a great mecca for adventure. Anchorage dining includes some of the freshest seafood in the world. From plump, cold-water Kachemak Bay oysters, to Alaska king crab to brewpubs and and drive-through coffee huts, Anchorage has it all! 


Anchorage has 114 primary and secondary schools. One of the best schools is Chugach Optional Elementary School, which has a rating of 10. It has 256 students. Public schools in Anchorage belong to Anchorage School District. There are many postsecondary school options in Anchorage, including the University of Alaska, Anchorage
