OBHG Welcomes Lori Custer, Compliance/Privacy Officer

In our continuing efforts deliver excellence to both our physicians and hospital partners, OBHG is proud to welcome a new addition to our team, Lori Custer, Ob Hospitalist Group's Compliance/Privacy Officer.  

In her role as Compliance/Privacy Officer, Lori will develop, initiate, maintain, and revise policies and procedures for the general operation of the Compliance Program and its related activities. 

She will also develop, periodically review and update Standards of Conduct to ensure continuing currency and relevance in providing guidance to management and employees.

One of Lori's first projects upon joining OBHG was creating the Compliance Hotline. She is passionate about developing and maintaining an effective compliance communication program for OBHG, including:

  • Promoting use of the Compliance Hotline
  • Creating heightened awareness of Standards of Conduct
  • Developing an understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures.
     

Lori earned her BS in Health Information Administration at the University of Cincinnati where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She graduated with her Juris Doctorate from The Thomas Cooley School of Law in Lansing, MI.  

In addition to her role at Ob Hospitalist Group, Lori also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Northwest Ohio.  

Congratulations to OBHG Hospitalist, Debbie Bredestege, MD

OBHG Hospitalist, Dr. Debbie Bredestege was recently honored by the Family Medicine Residency program at OBHG Hospital Partner, Cox South.  At a recent graduation ceremony, Dr. Bredestege was surprised to receive the honor of  "Volunteer Teacher of the Year Award".

Dr. Charlie Jaynes, Senior Director of Medical Operations for OBHG stated, "This is a fantastic testament to Dr. Bredestege and for our program at Cox South. It is an acknowledgement of the outstanding effort she and so many of our hospitalists put forth, for all the right reasons, regarding Cox and OBHG."

Dr. Bredestege's honor is a result of her embracing OBHG's core value of genuine service by serving intentionally, sincerely and joyfully with humility.

Is There a Doctor in the House?

Much has been made of the current and projected shortage of OB/GYN’s in our country. In fact, Edward Salsberg, Director of Center for Workforce Studies Association says “there is a gale force wind on the demand side.” The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) agrees, predicting that demand for OB/GYNs will exceed the supply. This paradigm will not only affect hospitals but the remaining practicing OB/GYNs and most importantly, the patients. Ob Hospitalist Group’s mission is to elevate the quality and availability of obstetric care to expectant mothers and as such is at the forefront of understanding this and other women’s healthcare issues and creating innovative ways to minimize any negative impact.  Below we examine some of the primary causes for this shift.

The most obvious factor in the shift of supply/demand is expanding population in the US; about 25 million per decade. Adding to that burden is the increase in uninsured and indigent patients who are often the costliest patients for the hospitals that serve them and present a higher risk to treating physicians due to a lack of prenatal care resulting in a greater incidence of complications.
