Our History Our Approach Our Team Core Values, Vision, Mission Awards and Recognition
"The second night after OBHG started, a woman came in with an abruption and needed a stat C-section surgery. The OBHG physician got her into surgery within 16 minutes vs. the standard of 30 minutes. This probably averted a disaster and went a long way in confirming our decision with the nurses and local groups."
A Unique Vision
Ob Hospitalist Group began in 2006 with a vision to Elevate the Standard of Women’s Healthcare by making certain every expectant mother was afforded consistent, unconditional, quality medical care by a highly skilled clinician when presenting to the Labor and Delivery department. The concept seemed simple, but the challenge was daunting. At the time, nearly every known laborist model in the United States was associated with very large teaching hospitals and dependent upon outside funding. Defining and creating a financially viable model beyond a typical laborist program became the passion for our founder, Dr. Chris Swain.
The Birth of the First Ob Hospitalist Group Program
Dr. Chris Swain began his work in Kissimmee, Florida. In collaboration with a national hospital management company, hospital staff, and private physicians, Dr. Swain developed the concepts, policies, and procedures for the first Ob Hospitalist Group program and our first Obstetric Emergency Department (OBED). These early experiences and lessons proved invaluable as they ultimately led to the development of an entire portfolio of viable, flexible obstetric program solutions.
